Poll: New Yorkers Prefer Hillary Over Rudy...To Handle Terrorism!
As you've probably heard by now, Rudy Giuliani's 9/11 performance was a Masterful Display of Churchillian Resolve, and as a result, Rudy the candidate should now be seen as a kind of cross between the Terminator and Dwight Eisenhower, who ran for President after his stint as commander of the allied forces in Europe.
Presumably, the people who would best know this are New Yorkers, who got the closest view of Rudy in the disaster's aftermath.
So when New Yorkers are asked who they trust more to handle terrorism, Rudy or Hillary, naturally they pick Rudy, right? Well, take a look at this new Rasmussen poll. It finds:
Which of NEW YORK'S PRESIDENTIAL HOPEFULS do you trust the most to handle the War on Terror?36% Giuliani
44% Clinton
Go figure.
If more such numbers come out, I'm sure we'll start hearing a great deal from pundits about Hillary's advantage on terror, at least in New York, as we constantly hear now about Rudy. Right?
Meanwhile, the poll also finds that Hillary is crushing Rudy the Terminator of Terrorists by an astonishing 25-point margin in New York, 58%-33%. Which would seem to make it tougher for Rudy to sustain his argument that he's the one who as GOP nominee would put reliably blue states -- such as his own -- in play.

Wow, The terminator of terrarists ? If Rudi can't win over NYers then he is DOA when the general election starts.
jay W wrote on August 28, 2007 4:10 PM:I think that he is such a fake!
Greg wrote on August 28, 2007 4:11 PM:yeah, agreed on both counts. also the question of who to trust on the war on terror you'd think is less likely to break down on partisan lines. so maybe new yorkers just didn't think rudy did as great a job as everybody keeps saying he did.
jay W wrote on August 28, 2007 4:16 PM:i just came back from visiting my folks down in louisiana and the people down there just love Rudy. The problem is that they have not caught on yet what has been going on in the media with him.....(the fact that the NY firefighters hate him, his daughter will not vote for him, he is on his third wife..etc.)
They are clueless down there.
Greg,
The only people saying Rudy did a great job are those close to Rudy's campaign and Rudy himself. Hardly a ringing endorsement if you're the one having to endorse yourself ... again and again and again.
Should he make it to the General as the Nominee, I trust whoever the Dem candidate is will have a lot of help from firefighters and police officers in educating the Public about what Rudy REALLY did (or didn't do) after 9/11.
He may want to find another thing to run on. What's that? That's all he has? Oh, bummer for him, I guess.

Rudy responded to an emergency, but he did NOT PREVENT a terror attack.
As NYC mayor, Rudy never gave a thought to the topic of terrorism until AFTER the terrorists struck on Sept. 11, 2001, even though terrorists had attacked the World Trade Center in 1993 and were sure to do so again.
Rudy has the gall to talk about the Democrats not being on "offense." Rudy wasn't even on "defense" until AFTER the attack. Rudy is full of hot air and delusions of wonderfulness.
Wayne Barrett, who covered Rudy Giuliani's career for "The Village Voice" and is co-author of "Grand Illusion: The Untold Story of Rudy Giuliani and 9/11," probably knows more about Rudy Giuliani than most reporters do.
Here is the link to the transcript from the Keith Olbermann show where Wayne Barrett discussed Rudy's failure to prepare for a terror attack on New York City.

WAYNE BARRETT said (on June 27, 2007): [RUDY GIULIANI] mentioned the '93 bombing ONCE in the eight years that he was mayor, and that was in his inaugural address in 1994. And he used it as a METAPHOR for self-help, for personal responsibility as part of his welfare program. He certainly NEVER talked about the World Trade Center bombing. Not only publicly, but in the course of the book, we interviewed everybody who was considered to be his first police commissioner, and this is within months of the attack in '93. The question NEVER CAME UP in the interviews that he conducted or that were conducted by the transition committee that he established.
Look, what does it say that he NEVER even had a multiagency DRILL in the World Trade Center in the eight years in between the [1993] incident? Not only did he put the command center THERE [in the World Trade Center, on the 23rd floor], the firefighters were carrying the SAME radios that MALFUNCTIONED on the day of the '93 bombing.

But, the NYC firemen have been speaking out against Rudy ever since Rudy allowed them to dig at Ground Zero (looking for the remains of their loved ones) ONLY up UNTIL the day, Oct. 31, 2001, that they found the $200 million in gold bullion in the bowels of the WTC.
The NEXT day, Mayor Rudy pulled the firemen off the site and would not let them dig any more for the remains of their sons, brothers, fathers, friends.

On Nov. 1, 2001, Mayor Rudolph Giuliani announced that "more than $230 million" worth of gold and silver bars that had been stored in a bomb-proof vault had been recovered

In other words, the firemen were allowed to dig for the remains of their sons, fathers, brothers, uncles and best friends only until the gold was found and then Rudy -- under pressure from NYC businessmen who wanted the city to return to "normalcy" as soon as possible -- stopped the digging.
When the firemen protested, Rudy had them arrested.

This poll is not surprising.
Rudy is popular with voters who don't know him or his record. They just know him as the mythical "9/11 hero".
With Rudy familiarity breeds contempt. The more you know him the less you like him.
It explains Hillary's lead in NY State. People in NY know Rudy well. They know his personal life as well as his record. They also know Hillary well.
They pick Hillary over Rudy by a wide margin.
This is why I don't think Rudy will get the GOP nomination. His GOP opponents will make sure voters get to know the real Rudy and when they his numbers will go down.
bjobotts wrote on August 28, 2007 5:41 PM:There's really no comparison. One is 'just' a media hound and the other is a viable presidential candidate. For New Yorkers who read as well as watch TV it's a no brainer.

Had I not already said all of this before? We, New Yorkers, know as much about HRC and Rudy as any pundit out there, and overwhelmingly, HRC has been our favorite pol... but she is 'unelectable' and has high 'negatives'... Yeah, right!

A lot of NY'ers like Rudy, they just like Hillary more. She is cunning, she is a world figure. She's been high profile on terror funding for the city. (And for the record, the T-X Lady Terminator kicked Arnold's ass in Terminator 3.)

I wouldn't want him as dogcatcher.

I even find it harder to navigate the archives efficiently. Is there a user's manual anywhere :-)? The old format was great. Could we have it back, pretty please?! I never thought I cared much for it, but I even miss the silly rating system!!
