Breaking: Craig Likely To Resign, After All
There's been yet another twist in the Saga of Wide Stance Larry -- now one of his top aides is saying that he's likely to resign, after all:
"The most likely scenario, by far, is that by October there will be a new senator from Idaho," Craig spokesman Dan Whiting told the Associated Press.The only circumstances in which Craig might try to complete his term, Whiting said, would require the overturning by Sept. 30 of his conviction for disorderly conduct in a men's room at the Minneapolis airport, as well as Senate GOP leaders' agreement to restore Craig's committee leaderships posts taken away this week.
Craig's spokesman did say that he's still trying to clear his name and to get the senate ethics committee to back off. But he conceded to the AP that the likelihood of pulling off the scenario whereby he'd be able to return to the Senate was unlikely.
Okay, then -- can we put an end to this one, already?

If you just have to go to the bathroom, you generally go to the first/closest such facility.

If you're really curious, do read Idaho Statement's articles on this case, there are a few:
1. there is ample evidence that this particular bathroom was a real pickup hotspot
2. the decoy cop describes in detail how many such arrests he's made in that very bathroom
3. listen (not just read) to the police interview where Craig is lying his head off
4. go on the internet and find out about foot-tapping etc in the "tearoom" (public toilettes) as a well-known inviting sign for silent homosexual interaction
After this quick research additional questions will seem irrelevant.
I think Larry Craig is determined to lie his way out of this because it has the potential of ruining way more things for him than just his senatorial seat. He is very scared right now, though he may think himself brave in his staunch denial...

We should be praying that Sen. bathroom sex solicitation sticks around through the 2008 election! Nothing will depress GOP base turnout like another GOP sex scandal that drags on and on. I'm serious, too. Nothing, not one thing.
Here's hoping that he gets to take back his guilty plea, and this case gets relitigated in public. Regardless of the outcome, the news coverage alone will be golden.
