Report: Kerrey Leaning Against Senate Run

So New School President Bob Kerrey may not run for retiring Senator Chuck Hagel's seat, after all, according to several people close to him.

If he does nix a run it'll be a blow to national Dems who've been hoping that he'd go for it, since he has a very good shot at capturing the seat for Democrats, having been a Senator in the state in the past. Apparently he was set to make an announcement today but now may delay sharing word on his plans until next week.

Wow, Democrats aren't used to receiving such bad news anymore. Combined with Johanns's candidacy, this basically means the GOP have managed to snatch victory from a seat that they were destined to lose!

Is there no Democrat to take up the torch? Johann's was part of the Bush administration for crying out loud. That alone should be enough to get him banned from public office permanently.

This would be a tough seat to win anyway
with Johanns in the race.

I'm not as gung-ho on Democratic prospects in the Senate nest year; I only think they'll gain two seats, three max.

No chance down ticket from Hillary-induced 40 point bloodbath in NE. Not in an open seat where there's a strong inclination by voters to vote straight ticket. Can Bob Kerrey really convince 40% of Thompson or Rudy voters to split tickets? I doubt it.

At least Johanns left Nebraska as well, although obviously under different conditions. Otherwise, I think the carpetbagger claims will be somewhat challenging to rebut.
