Report: Brownback Dropping Out
The lower tier of Republican candidates is reportedly about to shrink a little bit — Sam Brownback is expected to drop out of the race tomorrow.
Brownback's campaign had never really caught fire, with him raising only $4 million and coming in third at the Iowa Straw Poll behind Mike Huckabee, a rival for the social conservative vote.
So where will Brownback's support, such as it was, end up going? That's a good question. On the one hand, Romney's campaign has been trying to consolidate the Christian right into a unified anybody-but-Rudy campaign. On the other hand, Brownback's camp had been bashing Romney to no end, taking every opportunity to call him a phony.

Can Colbert Actually Get On The Ballot?

Would he support Huckabee? Or is there too much bad blood from Iowa for that.

My take is that this might hurt (to the extent it hurts anyone) Giuliani, since the more candidates split the social conservative vote, the better for him (analysis).

I think that's a good thing. I think Senator Brownback can accomplish more in the Senate. He has his role there.

No doubt about it, it's the Colbert Effect.

How sad a day it is when we can write this headline: 'Brownback drops out of race; GOP loses last best hope for sane nominee.' The Republican field gets more and more laughable every day.

It helps Huckabee, obviously! He's starting to break out in Iowa, and I would imagine that he will pull all of the Christian right purist voters who had formerly supported Brownback.
Romney is a hypocrite and a Mormon, and Rudy is not socially conservative enough, even if he supposedly promises them judges.

Huckabee is the one candidate that we should really be worried about. He resonates with voters and does not come off as conservative as really is. He would be formidable in the general election. Only good thing is club for growth hates him.

Hopefully his supporters flock to Ron Paul.

Dang; and I was wating to see his great policy initiatives on Science and Technology. Isn't he the Republican wingnut who believe that the sun revolves around the earth?
