Chávez Promises A Volatile Primary In New Mexico Senate Race
Albuquerque Mayor Martin Chávez, who has already declared his candidacy for the Democratic nomination for Senate, is fuming after national and local Dems have attempted to recruit Rep. Tom Udall (D-NM) to enter the primary against him.
“This will not be a sweet primary. It just won’t,” Chávez told Roll Call. “The contrast in records between me and the Congressman won’t situate him well for the general election.”
This comes only days after Chávez praised Udall as a "great congressman" in a conference call with local progressive bloggers, and adding that he would attempt to mimic Udall's voting record in Congress: “If you look issue by issue I doubt you’ll find much difference ... You will find that we will vote together almost all the time.”

I think Udall's hesitance is Richardson and both would clobber Marty in the primary, unlikely Marty would win the primary against even Wiviott let alone beat Wilson or Pearce, for those who don't know him: LOSER. For the lefties that hate Hillary, she's Kucinich compared to Chavez.

In the last 30 years there has only been one Anglo to beat a hispanic in a Dem primary, and that was barely eeaked out. Marty CHAVEZ sure does sound good to all those Northern New Mexicans who vote. And btw, DC will not pick this candidate, New Mexico will.

You're either for progressive ideas and issues or you're against them.
Sounds like you're for them when talking to progressive bloggers but against them when threatening a potential progressive opponent.

john doe wrote on November 8, 2007 2:29 PM:Udall is definitely out best potential candidate out of this bunch.
john wrote on November 8, 2007 2:59 PM:This "Udall" is not like all the other Udall's, not as popular. Also, the last time he ran statewide there was no on in the race and it was an easy election for him. He is not battle tested like everyone thinks. A great congressman, and that is where he should stay.
