Romney Might Not Contest Massachusetts In General Election
Recent polling has made something pretty clear for Mitt Romney: He would have a hard time at best in the general election in his home state of Massachusetts, where he served one term as governor. The latest SurveyUSA poll shows him losing the state by an amazing 65%-31% margin against Hillary Clinton. And what's more, he might not even try to compete there at all.
In an e-mail exchange with Election Central, Romney spokesman Kevin Madden seemed to tacitly admit that they'll cede to the Democrats the state that elected Romney as its governor five years ago. "Massachusetts is a pretty blue state, and has gone to the Democrat candidate in national elections quite regularly in recent history," Madden said. "Our focus is on winning the Republican nomination and then taking the governor's message of bringing change to Washington to the rest of the country."

LOL, the rest of the country? Except Massachusettes of course! They don't count as part of the rest of the country, too "librul"...
In MA, we all know he's a huge phony. Of course he wont try to carry the state, a true con artist always moves on to bigger and better prizes. Mitt Romney is dripping in snakeoil.

Just a suggestion.

Barbara wrote on November 1, 2007 10:33 AM:Here in Massachusetts, Mitt Romney would barely be recognized. We all know our state was simply a stepping stone for him. As soon as he was elected governor, he took off to run for president and we never saw him again.
Richard L. Adlof wrote on November 1, 2007 10:38 AM:I see Romney losing to Clinton in the Primary, but how would he do in General against a Democrat?
SB from MA wrote on November 1, 2007 11:10 AM:Romney's primary concern is his own ambition and that became quite apparent after he was elected 2nd time as governor. He abandoned the state to run for president, even publicly denigrating the people of MA if that would further his goals. In actual governance, such as it was, his policies were designed to buff his image rather then create any substantive improvement in government or the lives of its citizens. It is typical corporate raider philosophy: find a resource, mine it for what its worth, sell it to gullible stockholders, and leave it to others to clean up in the end. Remember that is what he was more than anything else.

Mitt's profoundly unpopular here in MA. Even the GOP here can't stand him. Apparently, they were under the delusion that if they supported him when he slipped their incumbent Republican governor (Jane Swift) the shiv, Mitt would follow through on his promises that, once elected, he would use his "popularity" to build a party structure and to support GOP candidates throughout the commonwealth.
Of course, he never did any such thing! Mitt practically had a running limo waiting to take him directly from his inauguration to the airport. Not only did he not help any GOP candidate (none were elected to statewide office during his tenure in the corner office), but he didn't even campaign for his own Lt. Governor when she tried to succeed him in '06! The final straw for the GOP here was when he campaigned for and contributed to Republican candidates and state parties in key presidential primary and caucus states, but gave not a single red cent to the Massachusetts GOP!
Nice guy, hunh? Personally, I doubt he'll carry MA in the Republican primary this year!

Translation:
We question whether we can win the primary election in MA, and don't want to risk the potential embarrassment of being defeated in the state where we held the governor's office.

Seems to me - what hubris - what grandiose vision of himself must Romney entertain to put himself forward as potential Prsident of the United States.
Forget about all the fudging and outright pandering with regard to those issues which might make him palatable to hard right - when I saw that tv interview with Romney moving down a hallway - with his five preternaturally robust sons virtually filling the hallway behind him (and wish them all good health) to then be told not one of them would consider joining the military. Well - that is just shocking.
For a candidate to call for a surge / expansion of our military - and not have even one of his sons step forward in response to that call - is just unbelievable. Forget about Josh driving the van through all the states, etc. - Are they serious? Seems years ago - Political Advisors would have .... advised "the people will see right through you" Mitt should save his money and give the country a break.
He has zero chance of winning in MA.
Romney has thrown Massachusetts under the bus in his attempts to win over the heart's of conservatives. Everyone here knows that he is capable of stabbing anyone and everyone in the back...and doing it with a million-dollar smile.
I'm no fan of any republican right now, but at least John McCain has some character. Rudy "Noun Verb 911" is another disgrace to the country's political process.

I'm sure some politcal historian can (and will) point out to me the last time Mass. backed a republican candidate for the presidency, but at the moment I can't think of one.
No doubt the Democrats will really play-up this poll, banking on the notion that the rest of the country is in the dark about knowing just how far left Mass.'s libral lunacy really is.

Aren't the Udall's mormon?

Yea, I hate the 'lunacy' of Mass., with their top quality educational institutions, high income earners and low divorce rate.
Give me Alabama!
Ahhhhhhhh Willard!
Pretty face! Pretty smile! Pretty teeth! Pretty hair! - and the ugliest politics this side of the Mason-Dixon Line!
What a flipfloppin' phony.

They also elected Bill Frist as a senator who since has proven extra ordinary powers of diagnosing patients (incorrectly)over video camera. So you see, nobody ever has held the people from Tennessee are intelligent. They also have a higher divorce rate than Mass. Does that mean they are stupid as well as religious or is it religious and stupid????
And Yes, Jean, the Udalls are Mormons.
