Des Moines Mayor Endorses Obama
Barack Obama has picked up a major endorsement in Iowa, where recent polls show him either narrowly leading or just narrowly behind Hillary Clinton. Obama announced today the endorsement of Des Moines Mayor Frank Cownie, who was easily re-elected last month with 80% of the vote.
If Obama is to win the nomination, he must beat Hillary here and gain the momentum necessary to chip away at her leads in almost all the other states. Cownie's support in heavily Democratic Polk County may help him towards pulling that off. At the very least, it certainly can't hurt.

Eric Kleefeld says "If Obama is to win the nomination, he must beat Hillary [in Iowa]." More Hillary is inevitable spin. Why is Iowa a must for Obama? Hillary is slipping fast. Even if she pull Iowa out, Obama is strong.

Frank Rich's column yesterday seems convincing to me:
He may be a bit optimistic about Obama's chances in the general, but who cares.
My only problem with Barak is his health insurance plan (limited mandate, no Medicare alternative) and his support for Coal To Liquid (dirty and regressive). His willingness to compromise on issues may be a little excessive, but then as a rookie senator, he hasn't been in a position of relative power yet. I like his consistent approach during the race so far. And finally, maybe for once, the youth vote will actually show up.
