Romney Campaign Responds To Concord Monitor's Un-Endorsement, Hits Paper's Liberalism

Over the weekend we noted that the Concord Monitor, which has not endorsed in the New Hampshire GOP primary, had taken the unusual step of running an anti-endorsement of Mitt Romney, urging Republicans and independents to vote against him.

Now the Romney campaign has sent us the following response from Romney spokesperson Kevin Madden:

"The Monitor's editorial board is regarded as a liberal one on many issues, so it is not surprising that they would criticize Governor Romney for his conservative views and platform.
"Governor Romney has taken firm positions that are at odds with the board's support for drivers licenses for illegal immigrants, their position against school choice and their advocacy for taking "Under God" out of the Pledge of Allegiance. The governor happens to disagree with the editorial board on all those issues, as do most Republicans in New Hampshire."

Of course, the Romney response doesn't at all address the substance of the Monitor's criticism, which is not that he's too much of a social conservative, but that he's flip-flopped on every major issue in order to pretend he's the genuine article. The paper is hitting Romney not so much over his ideology or core principles, but for his lack of them.

A conservative, by definition, seeks to limit change.

Romney can't even limit his changing positions on issues.

Consequently, Romney is an anti-conservative.

I'll also bet that the Concord Monitor has been paid a lot of dough by the candidate who's the more afraid of facing Mitt in the next election.
But like I said: Americans are so gullible! Go ahead and play Hillary's game! A country always get the President they deserve and it is never the best because you love to destroy your best candidates.
McCain was your best 8 years ago, but you choose Bush, so don't complain now, you did the voting. But McCain is not your best now, he should be smart enough to think about retirement before he makes a fool of himself.

What "core values" does Mike Huckbaee have that would lead him to take hundreds of thousands in gifts in return for state jobs and other favors? What sort of "core beliefs" would cause Huckabee to take hundreds of thousands of dollars in consulting fees WHILE HE WAS GOVERNOR? What kind of "core values" lead to such corrupt and unethical behavior?

I trust Mitt Romney's core values over Mike Huckabee's any day of the week. Romney doesn't have this trail of garbage which I think speaks volumes about his "core values".

Mitt Romney is in good company. The Concord Monitor attacked Ronald Reagan and George Bush in the same way in editorials dated 2/21/80. The Monitor wrote, "Ronald Reagan - The former California governor is simply too old (69), too doctrinaire, too inexperienced in the intricacies of the federal government. We gravely question his capability to withstand the daily physical and emotional battering that the nation's chief executive must endure." Also, "Though personable, [Reagan] is on the side-lines of contemporary American thought, and he could not win a national election if he won the GOP nomination."
