Missouri's GOP Governor Not Running Again

In a surprise announcement, first-term Missouri Gov. Matt Blunt (R), son of House Minority Whip Roy Blunt, announced that he will not seek re-election this year.

Polls were consistently showing Blunt losing to the state's longtime Democratic Attorney General Jay Nixon, but it is unclear how Nixon might perform against a stronger Republican.

There is no stronger Republican out there who can take Blunt's place. Anyone who steps up to the plate on this is going to have to defend Blunt's record. Nixon will be the next Governor of Missouri.

I will never be completely comfortable using the name Nixon with respect to any Democrat even though there's no connection to Tricky Dick. It's just weird.

This is the best news I have read all year (I know, the year is young, but still this is very good news). Citizens of MO should be dancing in the streets. Good riddance.

Blunt's hair is his problem. He dyes it himself at home. It looks awful.

He should have flown out the California to seek out the stylist that does Schwartzenegger's hair.

Republicans : Never forget - hairstyles are half your game !

From the article:

In his stunning announcement, he said he had achieved virtually everything he set out to accomplish when he ran for governor and therefore would not seek re-election.

I'm pretty sure he stole that from George H.W. Bush's appearance on The Simpsons: http://www.snpp.com/episodes/3F09.html

George: [typing] And since I'd achieved all my goals as President in one term, there was no need for a second. The end. Hmm, good memoirs. Good, not great.
