Rasmussen: Romney Beats McCain By One Point In Michigan

A new Rasmussen poll shows that there might just be some life left in Mitt Romney after all, giving him a narrow lead over John McCain in Michigan. Here are the numbers, compared to their last Michigan poll from early December:

Romney 26% (+6)
McCain 25% (+17)
Huckabee 17% (-4)
Thompson 9% (+0)
Paul 8% (+1)
Giuliani 6% (-13)

The Michigan primary is emerging as a real question mark for the GOP race — our Election Central Poll Tracker shows that one recent poll gives the lead to McCain, another to Huckabee, and this one to Romney.

In other presidential news, the Nevada Democratic caucuses have now been dragged to court, as a teachers union has filed a lawsuit to make it harder for culinary workers to vote (which could obviously hurt Obama).

Just remember, Michigan Democrats: "Vote for Chaos! Deliver Michigan to Mitt on the 15th!"

Because you know they would screw with us if they had the chance.

I'm a Michigan Dem. I'm leaning toward Undeclared. I presume my vote adds to the share of delegates assigned to Washtenaw County. The county convention will decide which candidate to support with delegates to the national convention. I would expect this county to support the most progressive change agent available. Sen. Levin feels the national organization will relent and seat Michigan delegates. There is other business at the convention Michigan should be part of, eg. platform decisions, therefore I agree with Levin. Furthermore there are other handslap type punishments that are sufficient for Michigan's transgression in trying to voice a manufacturing state's concerns early in the process.

If I lived in a more conservative county I might "vote for chaos", though I would also call it a hedge. IMHO Romney, as a practical Republican, is the least worst of the GOP field. I just hope he's actually lying to their base.

By-the-way, whether or not this effort by the Michigan Democratic party turns out well for us I'm glad they tried it. Everybody should try and fix our broken democracy. I am seeing evidence lots of people are trying and that is very encouraging.

And they have in the past.

The Republicans crossed over to game the 1988 Michigan primaries for Jesse Jackson, and they gamed the 1998 gubernatorial primaries to ensure that nutcase Geoffrey Fieger won the Democratic nomination for governor, thus giving John Engler the win. The Dems retaliated in 2000 when, upon hearing Engler guarantee publicly that Bush would win the primary (probably so he'd get a cushy appointment in Bush's Junta), they voted en masse for McCain, giving him the state and very nearly derailing Bush's candidacy. (The margin of victory for McCain was something like one-half the number of Democratic voters; he would have lost had Michigan Democrats not come to his aid.)

Look at the 2008 Michigan primary. Hillary's going to win the Democratic slate as the only other person on the ballot is Kucinich, Obama and Edwards having pulled out because Michigan's being punished for being greedy and stupid. Since the Democratic primary in the state has already been decided for Hillary, tens of thousands of Democrats have nowhere to go -- but they can give Mittens a boost.

And really, what can the Republicans do to stop it? Nothing. Not a thing. The more publicity this gets, the better -- and Michigan Dems will gladly do it.

Sorry chesser, but i will be voting uncommited in the dem primary. I would never want them redheaded republican cowards to have my name on their database calling me wanting money or to trash dems, no thank you. All names that vote in the dem primary go to the state dem party office, all that vote republican go to the rep state offices.

Rasmussen poll means McCain will win by 5 pts - they should be embarrased to announce their polling results

Why, exactly, should we care what the polls say after the New Hampshire fiasco?

I will be waiting for actual real votes before deciding who beats whom in any given state.

It's hard to imagine Romney winning Michigan. He's such a disappointing guy.
