Thompson: No, I'm Not Quitting The Race

Is Fred Thompson really going to quit the race before New Hampshire if he posts a weak showing in Iowa, as an anonymous adviser said this morning?

Thompson himself says it isn't happening. Here's what he had to say in an interview this morning with KCCI-TV in Des Moines:

"That is absolutely made up out of whole cloth," said the former U.S. Senator from Tennessee.

Thompson said a rival campaign was likely the source of that rumor.

"Can you imagine such a thing in politics?" he asked.

The Thompson campaign is working overtime this morning to shoot down the rumor, which has it that if Thompson folds, he'll throw his support to John McCain.

No rest for the weary. Huh, Freddy?

By "working overtime" you mean they came in at 10:00 and won't leave until 2:30?

I'm not sure I've ever seen a candidate so rapidly confirm every negative media stereotype about him as Grandpa Freddie.

I think even his former employers at Law & Order took a veiled shot at him on the Season Premier last night. In Thompson/Arthur Branch's old office, now occupied by Jack McCoy/Sam "Unity '08" Waterston, we are told that the old trophy cases of the former DA have been replaced with a "working" office!!

Stick a fork in Fred, he's done.

I caught that 'working office' crack last night, too, and got a big kick out of it.

As for his candidacy, why is he running at all, and I use that term 'running' loosely? It's inferior on so many levels.

I am NOT going anywhere

and then they leave

Well, he isn't really denying it, is he? He's saying it's made up because that leaker wasn't in the know, but it could still be correct.

Poor Fred... Quits a lucrative job to run (I use that term loosely) for President. Wonder what the odds are on trophy bride dumping his ass after the election.

What a fucking tool!

Wait a minute, Fred Thompson's running for President?

Small correction -- that was actually from the 10 p.m. news, not from this morning. (I'm news editor of the site that wrote the item)

Hey Micheal A... I think YOUR post is also "toooooooo" funny.. Maybe you should write "comidies" too. Your inability to spell is quite comical. I guess you haven't noticed that Thompson is serious and works pretty hard. His campaign just doesn't cater to the mainstream media which is probably why you think he hasn't worked hard. Because CNN TOLD you he didn't. So you lap it up like a good liberal mindless American. "Whatever Anderson Cooper tells me is true..."

Think about it. Who would be the better candidate to stand up to the other world leaders. He's tall, he has confidence in himself and his convictions. This is not a marshmallow world we live in now. We need integrity, staying power, enough political background to become one of the Washington fighting for fame; he is honest and his platform stands for every-thing I believe in and all my friends. This is not a game. This IS OUR FUTURE AND THAT OF OUR GRANDCHILDREN.

I just wrote my comments. They are not snide and sarcastic as some of our no-longer-Americans in spirit seem to be. Why was my comment not posted? Because I do not know what a URL is. E-Mail me that info and I will write it again. I am definitely behind Fred Thompson.

Sorry. I looked for my comment too soon. It IS here. However, in my fervor to get a comment off before I went back to my bookeeping January chores, I left out a word....background to NOT become one of the Washington bunch fighting each other even for "fame".

Wilma D. Lanier wrote on January 3, 2008 5:10 PM:

In case my last comment gets printed saying I left out the word "To NOT" become some of the Washington fighting each other, same party, with mud slings trying to be the big winner. As far as Hillary. Puhlease. Just because her husband got away with so much "nothing" in his time there, at least nothing to brag about, I cannot see her, a woman, knowing how so many countries feel about women making decisions for an entire country that they are dealing with. Never work....even if she takes her
political sidetick with her.

Wilma D. Lanier wrote on January 3, 2008 5:13 PM:

On the other hand, Giuliani stands for everything that most conservative Republicans or otherwise stand for. What are they thinking? He changes his stance on various platforms for please the current trend. Uh! Huh! Last one.

FRED '08
for TRUTH, JUSTICE and the AMERICAN WAY

A man who speaks the TRUTH, who actually believes in AMERICA, himself and his platform rather than polling constantly to see which way the wind is blowing.

A man of maturity and experience, who isnt so party blind he cant see or speak the truth. One who helped take down Nixon for his misdeeds but couldn't misuse the constitution or his political power and twist 'high crimes and misdemeanors' into taking slick willie down too. I wont agree with him on every topic, I believe PERJURY should've been a 'high crime', but I believe FRED has AMERICA's best interest in his heart!

ALSO if we are tragically hit here at home again, I'd rather hear FRED's voice addressing the nation than any other candidate running or not.

Perhaps if some of you aren't too trapped in just repeating others words without checking them for fact YOU might actually pull up his website and READ or LISTEN to the information he has there.

He doesnt just speak in soundbytes and political ads...he has messages for America. They come with hope, fact, AND truth. They tell of the hardships AND prosperity this nation faces not only today but for many years to come.

READ/LISTEN FOR YOURSELF and then digest it before you blow party bias.
